Abstract

Atenolol is a β-blocker medications that are often prescribed into groups of
cardiovascular drugs, such as hypertension, angina pectoris due to coronary
arteriosclerosis. The purpose of this study was to prove that the Thin Layer
Chromatography (TLC)-Densitometry method meet validation parameters
including linearity, accuracy, precision, selectivity and range, so that it can be
used for plasma atenolol analysis. TLC plate silica gel 60 F254 as stationary phase
and chloroform : methanol: ammonia (4: 6: 0,2) as mobile phase. Detection was
done with wavelength 275 nm. The result showed that value of linearity r-
count > r-
table that is 0.9697 > 0.811, limit of detection (LOD) 1.58 μg, limit of quantitation
(LOQ) 5.27 μg, relative standard deviation (RSD) 11.35%, and recovery 84.94%.
The results showed that thin TLC-Densitometry method could be used for the
analysis of atenolol in human plasma in vitro.
