Abstract

The quality of a drug should always be maintained from its production until
it is consumed by the patient. Drugs whose quality are not maintained can affect
the effectiveness of therapy and a possibility of microbial contamination. A good
non-sterile syrup preparation that is a syrup that must meet the quality
requirements. The requirement of microbial contamination in maximum nonsterile
syrup is no more than 〖10 ^3 colony/ g or colony/ mL. This research aims
to know the microbial contamination of Ambroxol Hydrochloride syrup according
to the storage condition in Pharmacies (Apotek) in the regency of Purwokerto and
to know the microbial contamination of Ambroxol Hydrochloride syrup at the first
opened syrup. This research is non-experimental with a descriptive analytical
approach. The examination of microbial contamination uses total plate count
method. The compatibility percentage of storage condition is the provided by the
Indonesian department of Health (2007). The average percentage of all Medicine
Storage is 86.69% which constitutes a good number. The highest compatibility
percentage are in pharmacies XI, XVIII, XIX, XXVI and XXX in the area of
Purwokerto which represents 100% and the lowest are for Pharmacies III and IX
whit only 72,72%. The examination of total plate countgives us the satisfying
result that the contamination of Ambroxol Hydrochloride syrup in the Banyumas
Regency is very low at the first opened syrup, furthermore the increase of
contamination at the first opening remains within the allowed limit of <103 (FIP,
1975). The result of this correlation test between the storage condition and the
number of colony gets a score of p> 0.05, which means there is no relation
between the condition of storage and the number of colony. From those
explanations above, it can be concluded that the storage condition can not
influence the microbial contamination in the stored medicine.
