Abstract
Waste of tofu and pineapple dregs result environmental pollution. One way to manage the waste is by processing it into fertilizers of vegetable crops; one of the crops that was observed was red spinach. Therefore, to utilize the waste of tofu and pineapple dregs as a fertilizer needed by plants, it is necessary to conduct research on the effect of the waste of tofu and pineapple dregs to the growth of red spinach. The research aimed to 1) determine the effect of mixture of tofu fermentation and pineapple dregs toward growth of red spinach on latosol soil, 2) define the effect of mixture of tofu fermentation and pineapple dregs toward yield of red spinach on latosol soil.
This research was conducted in Karanggude Kulon village, Karanglewas sub-district of Banyumas regency. The research was conducted from March 24th until May 9th, 2017. This research was implemented by planting red spinach in polybag with the allotment of tofu dregs, pineapple extract, pineapple dregs and tofu extract for 30 days with frequency of once in 2 days, once in 3 days, and once in 4 days. The observed variables were plant height, leaf number, leaf area, wet weight of plant, and dry weight of plant.
The study discovered that 1) the fermentation mixture of tofu and pineapple dregs presented a significantly different to the growth of plant height in 14 days after planting and the effect was very significant at the age of 21 days after planting and 28 days after planting, 2) the fermentation mixture of tofu and pineapple dregs did not present a significant effect to the growth of leave numbers, 3) the fermentation mixture of tofu and pineapple dregs showed a very significant effect at the age 21 days of planting and 28 days of planting, 4) the fermentation mixture of tofu and pineapple dregs to the red spinach demonstrated no significant effect on the weight of dry and wet plants.
