Abstract
The study entitled &ldquo “Implicature in Drama Script Entitled
Wek-Wek by Iwan Simatupang" aimed to describe the implicature types, to
describe conversational implicature associated with the principle of cooperation
and politeness in Wek-Wek drama script by Iwan Simatupang. The research type
was qualitative descriptive. The method applied was observation. The data source
collected was the speech of the Wek-Wek script written by Iwan Simatupang. The
research was conducted in three phases, namely: (1) the data collection phase with
observation method with tapping as the basic technique and it was continued with
uninvolved conversation observation technique; (2) the data analysis stage, the
method applied was equivalent method with Classifying Certain Element as the
basic technique, then the advanced technique was the Correlation of Comparing
and Contrasting; (3) data presentation stage, it was in the form of informal
presentation method. The results discovered that there were conventional and
conversational implications. More findings in Wek-Wek's drama script were
implicatures of information. The implicatures were as follow: 1) informing, 2)
affirming, 3) inviting, 4) forbiding, 5) convincing, 6) complaining, 7) criticizing, 8)
ignoring, 9) accusing and insulting, and 10) blaming. In addition, in the speech
implications found were disobey or obey to the Principles of Grice Cooperation
and Principle of Leech politeness, as follows. Principles of cooperation: 1) quantity
maxim, 2) quality maxim, 3) relevance maxim, and 4) implementation maxim.
Principle of politeness: 1) wisdom maxim, 2) generous maxim, 3) simplicity
maxim, 4)consensus maxim, and 5) sympathy maxim.
