Abstract

Arrester installation an concrete pole of electricity distribution network is essential in order to reduce lightning strike interference. The are two mounting patterns of Arrester installation which are three Arrester in concrete pole and one Arrester in each concrete pole. Both mounting patterns are able to reduce lightning strike interferences in different results, so that it can be known which mounting pattern is the effective in reducing the interference. The comparation used several parameters to find the effectiveness of each mounting patterns in order to reducing the interference. Parameter used to find the effectiveness are from field condition facts up to the economic terms of installation. Simulations are done by using ATP Draw to see both the waveform and the interference reduction of the current as it passed through the Arrester. Simulation and comparation of the parameters shown the reliability of interference reduction of each Arrester mounting patterns. Reliability indicators used in simulation proces are the number of network trips and Arrester performance. The installation one Arrester in each concrete pole more effective in reducing the interference of lightning strike with indication 9 times blackout for installation three Arrester in concrete pole and 1 time blackout for installation one Arrester in each concrete pole.
