This classroom action research entitled improving students' speaking ability
through audio-visual on basic competence of telling idol figure in grade VII B at Mts
Muhammadiyah 01 Purbalingga. The purpose of this study was to figure out the
improvement of the students by using audio-visual media. It was conducted at MTs
Muhammadiyah 01 Purbalingga in the academic year of 2016-2017. The subjects
were 37 female students of grade VII B. This research was conducted in two cycles
that were cycle I and cycle II. Each cycle had 4 stages such as planning,
implementation, observing and reflection. Test and non-test technique were used to
collect the data. The instruments were test and observation sheet. The data was
analyzed by using a quantitative and qualitative technique. The result showed the use
of audio-visual media can improve students' speaking ability in grade VII B MTs
Muhammadiyah 01 Purbalingga. It was proven by the improvement on cycle I and II.
In cycle I, the average value was 75,8 by the completeness percentage of 51 % or 19
students had the highest score 95. In cycle II the average value was 89.7 by the
completeness percentage of 95 % or 35 students had the highest score 100. So, the
data proved the improvement.
