Abstract

This study aimed to describe mathematical lateral thinking ability viewed
from students' learning achievement in SMA Negeri Baturraden. This study used
qualitative research method applying Miles and Huberman steps consisting of data
reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. Subject of this study was students of
grade XI IPA 1 in SMA Negeri Baturraden. Students were divided into three
groups; students with high, moderate, and low achievement. Each group selected
three respondents using purposive sampling technique. Data of this study were
collected by using test, interview, and documentation. Based on the result of this
study, it can be concluded that: (1) Students with high learning achievement are
able to find out the core of problem in solving the problem (sensitive), give many
answers for the same problem (fluency), give answer using various way or
problem solving strategies, see a problem from different perspectives (flexible),
and provide new answers as a result of original thinking. (2) Students with
moderate learning achievement are able to find out the core problem in solving
the problem (sensitive), provide many answers for the same problems (fluency),
and give new answers as a result of original thinking. (3) Students with low
learning achievement are able to find out the core problem in solving the problem
(sensitive), giving many answers for the same problem (fluency).
