Abstract

The aim of the study was to find out the student speaking skills and the
problem face by the students on the tenth grade student of SMK Muhammadiyah
1 Ajibarang in talking about impromptu speech. This research was conducted in
May 2017 at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Ajibarang in academic year 2016/2017. The
total number of population was 362 students. The researcher took 40 students as
the sample. To obtain the sample, the writer used proportional random sampling.
The method used descriptive quantitative. The instrument in collecting the data
used oral test. After the data had been collected and analyzed, it was found that a
lot of tenth grade students in SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Ajibarang could explain
about impromptu speech based on fluency, grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation,
and content assessment. Then, the dominant of the component assessment was
grammar with the percentage 63,5%. Based on the aspects above, it was known
that the grammar is determinant factors of student speaking skills in talking about
impromptu speech and being faced in the speaking problem at SMK
Muhammadiyah 1 Ajibarang. So, the students had to learn occasionally to
improve knowledge and science.
