Abstract

Ethanolic extracts of the soursop (Annona muricata L.) leaves has a free radical
scavenging activity with IC50 of 38.8362 ppm. The purpose of this study to
determine physical properties, stability and the free radical scavenging activity of
the ethanol extract of soursop leaves gel. Soursop leaves was extracted using 96%
ethanol with maceration method. Extract was formulated into 3 gel formulas with
concentration of 0,02; 0,3; and 4,5% using PVA base. Gel tested for physical
properties, stability for 28 days storage and free radical scavenging activity with
DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2 picrylhydrazyl). The results showed that ethanol extract of
soursop leaf gel does not meet the requirements of pH, but qualified on the viscosity
and drying time. Ethanolic extract of soursop leaf gel is not stable during of 28 days
storage because of a change its organoleptic, pH, and viscosity. Ethanolic extract
of soursop leaf gel has a free radical scavenging activity. At concentration of 4,5%
has a better free radical scavenging activity than that of innovator product.
