Abstract

The number of menstrual pain in the world is very high, on average more than 50% of women in each country experienced menstrual pain. In the United States, reported the prevalence of menstrual pain 59.7% of those who complained of pain, 12% severe pain, 37% moderate pain, and 49% light pain. This case caused 14% of teenagers often absent to school. In Indonesia it is estimated that 55% of women of productive age are tormented by menstrual pain, while the number of menstrual pain events ranged from 45-95% among women of reproductive age. The purposes of this research were to know the knowledge of dysmenorrhea and the usage of sour turmeric herbs on the students of SMP Negeri Purwokerto. This research was a descriptive observational research by using Cross Sectional approach. Sampling technique in this research was using Purposive Sampling. The data weres collected using a questionnaire. The numbers of Junior High Schools used are 9 Junior High Schools in Purwokerto with number of sample 101 respondents. The results of this study can be concluded that respondents who have good knowledge 82.2%, respondents who have enough knowledge 15.8 and 2.0% of respondents who have less knowledge. In the usege of herbal medicine of sour turmeric most of the students consumed fresh herbal medicine (herbal gendong) that was 89.1%. Students who consumed herbal turmeric acid when menstrual pain 48.5%, with the volume of turmeric acid as much as 1 cup (± 200cc) that is 64.4%. Most of the students get herbal turmeric acid by purchasing was 81.2%. As much as 88.1% of respondents said the information of herbal turmeric acid obtained from the family. The conclusion of this research was that most of junior high school students in Purwokerto have good knowledge as much as 82.2%.
