Abstract
The research was aimed to find out whether the use of Team Assisted
Individualization improves the students' reading comprehension. The research was
conducted at SMA Bruderan Purwokerto in the academic year 2015/2016 with 19
students of
grade
of IPA 1 as the subject of research. Classroom Action
Research (CAR)
was used
the method of research. This research
was conducted
collaboratively with th
e English teacher
, through
qualitative and the quantitative
data. The qualitative data were the observation of students' activities in the class
and questionnaire, while the quantitative data were reading test (pre
-test and post
-
test). The
result
data analysis showed that Team Assisted Individualization could
improve the students' reading comprehension. The improvement of pre
-test to
post
-test 1 was
3.42
% and there were 1
3 students (6
8. 43%) who reached score
≥77 (KKM). The improvement of pre
-test
to post
-test 2 was
7.20
%, and there was
also 17 students (8
9.47
%) who reached score ≥77 (KKM). It was also supported
by the result of observation and questionnaire. The students' reading activities in
cycle one to cycle two
improved
12.8
%. The data from t
he questionnaire which
consisted of 12 questions showed that more than
85% students gave positive
response. In conclusion, Team Assisted Individualization could improve students'
reading comprehension
