Abstract
The aim of this study was to find out the most vocabulary learning strategies used and in what level of user the second-grade students of SMP N 1 Sokaraja belong. The method used in this study was survey study. The sample of this study was 120 students of second-grade students of SMP N 1 Sokaraja. The writer used Schmitt’s vocabulary learning strategies questionnaire (VLSQ) which have 5 categories of strategy includingdetermination strategies, social strategies, memory strategies, cognitive strategies and metacognitive strategies to collect the data. After the data were collected and analyzed, the result showed thatthe most strategies used by the second-grade students of SMP N 1 Sokaraja was metacognitive strategies with the mean 3.3 and the students were categorized as medium strategy users of metacognitive strategies in learning vocabulary.
