Abstract
Elicitation technique is a way of getting students’ ideas and contribution in the classrooms. Teachers’ elicitation gives great contribution for both teachers and the students. Therefore, this aim of this research was to reveal the kinds of elicitation technique used by the teachers in English classrooms and to find out the students’ responses towards teachers’ elicitation technique. This research was conducted in a Junior High School 3 Banyumas. This research used descriptive method. To collect the data, the researcher employed interview, observation, and questionnaire techniques. The result of the research indicated that there were 5 types of elicitation techniques which were used by the teachers in English classrooms comprising asking questions, asking questions combined with using picture, asking questions combined with using text and dialogue, explaining meaning, and repetition. Moreover, the researcher found that the students’ responses towards teachers’ elicitation techniques was good, especially when the teacher asking questions to the students.
