Abstract

Research entitled The Roles of Aisyiyah (Female Islamic Movement of Muhammadiyah) in Empowering Education in Tinggarjaya Sub-District during 1935-2016 aims to 1) explain the history of Aisyiyah establishment in Tinggarjaya, 2) observe Aisyiyah Businesses in Tinggarjaya, and 3) figure out the roles of Aisyiyah in Tinggarjaya. This research used historical method involving 4 phases namely 1) heuristic, resources collection by interview, observation, and documentation; 2) critics, resources investigation which is classified into external critics (to investigate the resources authenticity), and internal critics (to check the credibility of resources content); 3) data intepretation; and 4) histography. The finding shows that 1) The branch officials of Aisyiyah of Jatilawang was established on 21 April 1935. It was initiated by the establishment of PKU by Muhammadiyah in Tinggarjaya aiming to prepare women to take care of orphanage. 2) Aisyiyah Business covers field of education, economic, health, social, dawah, and cadre. The most developed business is in education field. 3) Branch officials of Aisyiyah of Tinggarjayasuccesfully empowers education proven by the increasing number of schools in Tinggarjaya and generates spirit of the women to be creative, not only at home but also in society as career women.
