Abstract

The aim of the research was to find out the effectiveness of Jigsaw technique in
teaching reading recount text. This research used quasi experimental. Two classes
were chosen, VIII D as the experimental class and VIII E as the control class. Pretest
and post-test were used to find the data. The test was in multiple-choice forms
consisting of 20 items for each test. T-test formula was used to analyze the data. It
was also used questionnaire to strengthen the data. The result of the research
showed that there was a significant difference of the students‟ ability in mastering
Recount Text between the students who were taught using Jigsaw technique and
those who were taught using group work. It could be seen on the result of
computation of t-test, where t-result was 2.89 and t-table was 1.667 at the
significant level α=0.05 in df=68. So, the result of t-test result was higher than ttable.
It meant that the hypothesis about the effectiveness of jigsaw technique in
teaching reading recount text was accepted.
