Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of recast technique in teaching grammar in EFL Class. This research was conducted at SMP N 1 Sumbang in academic year 2011/2012. This quasi experimental research was held on 9th – 26th May 2012. The total sample was 67 respondents. The respondents were divided into two classes; 34 respondents from class 8E as an experiment class and 33 respondents from class 8A as a control class. The respondents were taught both simple present and past tense with different technique. For collecting the data, the writer used test as an instrument. The test was done twice, they were pre-test and post-test. After getting the data, the writer used t-test to analyze the data. The result shows that recast technique is effective in teaching grammar especially on the second year students of SMP N 1 Sumbang. It could be seen from the t-test result which was 2,070 and the value of t-table with the degree of freedom 65 was 1,669. Since t-test was higher than t-table (2,070 > 1,669), it could be concluded that recast technique was effective in teaching grammar.
