The aims of this research were (1) to find out the students‘ competence in analyzing subject and predicate, (2) to find out the error made by students in analyzing subject and predicate. The method used in this research was descriptive method. This research chose the forth semester students of English Department of Muhmmadiyah University of Purwokerto in the academic year 2011/2012 as population. The total population was 150 students. This research took 30% from the population, so the sample of this research was 45 students.
After conducting the research, it revealed that the mastery of analyzing subject and predicate of forth semester students of English department of Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto in the academic year 2011/2012 was 68, 7%. It meant that the students‘ competence was in good category. It was founded that 8 (17, 7%) students were in very good category, 19 (45, 0%) students were in good category, 14 (31, 3%) students were in fair category, 4 (8, 8%) students were in bad category and there were no students in very bad category. Most of the students made malformation error both in subject and predicate. The students made 22, 2% malformation error in subject, and 31, 3 % error in predicate.
