Abstract

The aim of this research was to know what the students’ perception toward the implementation of skimming and scanning strategy in reading class on the VIII grade at SMP Muhammadiyah Sampang. The method used in this research was descriptive method. The subject of this study was 50 students. The data was taken on February 2015. Questionnaire was used to obtain the main data and the interview as supporting data. There were two indicators of this research; skimming and scanning. 86% of the students perceived that skimming helps them finding clue words, typographical cues, and finding the unusual words to determine the main idea of the text. More ever, 84% of the students stated that scanning is a good strategy for finding specific information. The researcher can conclude that the students’ perception on the implementation of skimming and scanning strategies for teaching in reading class is positive.
