Abstract

This Research was used to improve students’ speaking ability. The subject of the
research was the first Grade students of class X-7 in SMA N Patikraja Academic
Year 2015-2016. The number of the students was 36. This research was done on
26 October – 12 November 2015. This Research was used Classroom Action
Research (CAR). The CAR was carried out in two cycles with two actions in each
cyle consisting of planning, acting, observing and reflecting. First, based on the
test result, the data showed that 91% students achieved the mastery level of
criterion (KKM). It reached the target of this research. Second, related to the
students observation it showed that 73% of students were involved in teaching
learning process. Third, based on the questionnaire result, 96% students gave
positive responses. Most of them loved role play to be their technique in their
learning activities. Those result proved that role play technique could improve
