Abstract
The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of Circle Chain
Game for teaching reading at the eight grade students of SMP N 1 Karanglewas in
Academic Year 2011/2012.
This experimental research was carried out on 2 to 19 April 2012. The method
of this research was quasi experimental especially non equivalent design. The total
sample was 66 respondents. The respondents were divided into two classes; they were
class VIII A as control class and class VIII B as experiment class. For collecting the
data, test was used as an instrument. The test was done twice; the first test was pretest,
and the second test was post test. After getting the data, t-test was used to analyze
the data.
Based on the result, t-test was 2.7953 and the value of t-table with the degree
of freedom 64 was 1.6690. Since t-test was higher than t-table, it could be concluded
that Circle Chain Game was effective for teaching reading.
