Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of Scrambled
Words in teaching simple present tense. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri
2 Rakit Banjarnegara in the academic year of 2010/2011.
Then, experiment was carried out in December 2010. The method of this
research was quasi experiment. The total sample was 64 respondents. The
respondents were divided into control and experiment classes. In collecting data, the
writer used test. There were two tests. The first was pre-test, and the second was posttest.
The test used multiple choice and simple completion. After getting the data, the
writer used t-test to analyze the data collected. The method of analysis the data was
quantitative.
Based on the result of data analysis, it was found that t-test result was 2.139,
while t-table score at significant level α = 0.05 for df (degree of freedom) = 62 was
1.990. So, the t-test was higher than t-table (2.139>1.990). It means that hypothesis
which stated that Scrambled Words was effective in teaching simple present tense on
the first year students of SMP Negeri 2 Rakit Banjarnegara in academic year of
2010/2011 was accepted.
