Abstract

This study was aimed at finding out 1) the English teaching methods used
by the teachers, 2) the reasons why the methods were good to be implemented,
and 3) the students’ perceptions on teachers’ teaching methods at English for Teen
program of LBPP LIA Purwokerto. The method used was descriptive survey
research, in which questionnaire and interview were used to elicit the data.
Results found that the English teaching methods used by the teachers were
CLT (38 %), Cooperative learning (37 %), and GTM (25 %). These teaching
methods were good to be implemented since teachers introduce variations and did
evaluations. Therefore it gave good perceptions to the students, since the mean of
students’ questionnaire was 91.01. Furthermore, students perceived that CLT was
the most interesting teaching method (14.04 %), then cooperative learning was the
second (14.04 %), and GTM was the last interesting teaching method (13.80 %).
These results indicated that teachers’ teaching methods influenced students’
perceptions and interests. In conclusion, students’ perceptions on teachers’
teaching methods provide information about teaching as experienced by the
students. This information could be used for teachers’ future improvement in
teaching learning process.
