Abstract
This study was aimed to improve students’
vocabulary mastery by using
domino game
. It used classroom action research (CAR), which was conducted on
grade VII I students of SMPN 2 Sokaraja on March to June 2014. The population
of t
he class was 34 students.
It w
as conducted in collaboration with the English teacher. The research
consisted
of two cycles with two actions in each cycle. Each cycle consisted of
planning, acting and observing, and reflecting. The data were taken by tests which
were analyzed quantitatively, and observation, questionnaire, documentation wer
e
analyzed qualitatively.
The result of the study indicated that there were significant improvements in
mastering vocabulary after implementing Domino Game in learning process. The
result of the test showed that the average score were 46.24 in pre-test,

in
post-test 1, 81.74 in post-test 2. The score showed about the improvement of post-
test 1 score toward pre-test score was 70.29%, and there was also an improvement
of post-test 2 score toward post-test1
; 3.81%. In the result of the test, there were

9 students from 34 students or 85.29% students who passed from KKM (70), and
it could be proved that the result reached the success indicator (85%)
. From the
result of students’ observation it could be known that in cycle 1 the score of
students’ activity
from session I was 61.08% to session II was 64.90%, the
improvement was 3.83%. In cycle 2 the score from session I was 76.47% to
session II was 85.29%, the improvement was 8.82%.
The questionnaire also
showed
that students had positive response to the teaching. It was indicated 85.29
% students gave positive answer to the questions given. In brief, it can be
concluded that
domino game
can
improve student’s
vocabulary mastery for the
first grade students in VII I of SMPN 2 Sokaraja in the school year 2013-
