Abstract
Background : Tuberculosis (TB) was one of important social health problems in
the world (Depkes RI, 2007). Indonesia was in the fifth ranked countries with
highest number of TB sufferers. One of solutions is to increase the illness
recovery number by Directly Observed Treatment Short-course (DOTS) strategy.
DOTS implements the administration of anti-tuberculosis drug in combination
with medication supervision for specified time period. This strategy is expected to
increase continuity of treatment and adherence of pulmonary TB patients.
Research Objective : This research was aimed to know the correlation between
medication supervision performance and continuity of treatment and adherence of
pulmonary TB patients using DOTS strategy of Community Health Center
(Puskesmas) of Madukara, Banjarnegara Regency.
Method : Type of this research was analytical observation with cross sectional
approach. Data collected by purposive sampling method. The data was gained
through patients’ medical record, questionnaire, and result of Pill Count.
Result : The result showed that the existence of proper medication supervision,
resulted in more respondents who were well managed in term of continuity of
treatment and adherence. The analysis result showed the existence of significant
correlation between performance of medication supervision with continuity of
treatment and adherence (p < 0,05).
Conclusion : Medication supervision performance correlated with continuity of
treatment and adherence of pulmonary TB patients using DOTS strategy. This
research suggest that it is beneficial to improve the performance of medication
supervision to be more active in motivating TB patients to finish the medication.
