This research was aimed to figure out the welfare nd to know the encouragement
of welfare of onion farmers in Rengasbandung Village, Jatibarang District,
Brebes Regency by identifying the interest in sending the children to higher
education.
The method of this research used survey method.the population of this research
was families which has schooled children totaled to 62 familiers taken by total
sampling technique. Questionaire was used as data collecting instrument covering
welfare data and the interest in sending the children to higher education level as
well as the documentation. Product mement correlation was employed as data
analysis.
The result of this research showed that there was positive influence between
welfare and the interest . It meant that the higher the welfare of the onion farmers,
the higher the interest to send the children to higher education level. In opposite,
the lower the welfare of the onion farmers, the lowerthe interest to send the
children to higher education level. The lack of communication among family
members, less participation in social activities, family’s low educational
background were the factors that gave negative effects. The interest in sending the
children to higher education level comprised the dislikeness and ignorance on
chidren’s wishes.
