The research entitled Analysis of Meaning on the Slogan of National
Television Station in Indonesia is aimed to describe (1) types of meaning on the
slogan of national television station in Indonesia, and (2) factors affecting the
meaning shift on the slogan of national television station in Indonesia.
This is a qualitative descriptive study employing the data of slogans used
in 10 national televisions in Indonesia. The slogan include all slogans used from
the first broadcast to the ones used in 2014. The data sources are the television
stations and also their corresponding websites containing the slogans. The stations
are ANTV, GLOBAL TV, INDOSIAR, METROTV, MNCTV, RCTI, SCTV,
TRANS TV, TRANS7, and TVONE. The stages of the study are data collection,
data analysis, and a display of the findings.
Based on the analysis and discussion, it can be concluded that (1) the
meanings in the slogans used by the stations are: associative, denotative,
extensive, emotive, and figurative meanings, (2) the factors affecting the
meaning shift on the slogans are the development of science and technology,
the change of society and culture, association, the need of new vocabulary,
and the influence of foreign language.
