Abstract

Antibiotic is a medicine that is used most when bacterial infection is
occurred. The factor to achieve efficacy of antibiotic therapy is the accuracy of
antibiotic use, mistake in prescribing medication can cause imprecision of
antibiotic use. This research was conducted to indicate quality and quantity of
antibiotic use at Sumbang public health center II Banyumas regency in the period
January-December 2015. This research used observational descriptive by using
retrospective data from medical record. Samples were taken from 73 patients who
got antibiotic by using proportional random sampling method. This research was
conducted by evaluating quality the appropriateness of antibiotics use based on
several parameters such as appropriateness of patients, indication, drug, dose and
be adapted by standard therapies and measuring of the quantity antibiotic use by
the system Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical/Defined Daily Dose (ATC/DDD).
The results showed that there are 9 antibiotics used such as Amoxicillin,
Ciprofloxacin, Cefadroxil, Cotrimoxazole, Chloramphenicol, Clindamycin,
Erythromycin, Tetracycline, and Ofloxacin. In the quality of antibiotic use
showed the percentage of appropriateness of patient was 100%, 76.71% for
appropriateness of indication, 36.99% for appropriateness of drug, 100% for
appropriateness of dose, 80.82% for appropriateness of frequency and 5.48% for
appropriateness duration of administration. In the quantity of antibiotic use there
are 4 antibiotics have dose more than DDD who have been determined by the
WHO such as Amoxicillin, Ciprofloxacin, Ofloxacin, and Trimethoprim while
antibiotics that is suitable with DDD are Cefadroxil, Chloramphenicol,
Tetracycline, Clindamycin, Erythromycin, and Sulfamethoxazole. The use of
antibiotics at Sumbang public health center II Banyumas regency, this quality still
no improper usage and for quantity still use that exceeds DDD WHO.
