Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the effectiveness of using
flashcard in teaching English vocabulary at the fourth grade of SDN 1
Karangcegak, Kutasari, Purbalingga, in the academic year 2010/2011.
This research was carried out at the fourth grade students of SDN 1
Karangcegak, Kutasari, Purbalingga, in the academic year 2010/2011. The
population in this research was class IV A which consisted of 37 students as the
experimental class without control one. The test used were pre-test and post-test.
The quantitative data was taken to measure the students result in pre-test and posttest
by using t-test computation.
The result of the research showed that the mean score of pre-test was
38.11 and the mean score of post-test was 55.00. The result of t-test computation
was 4.7824 and t-test table at the df:36 with α: 0.05 was 2.0281. The result of ttest
computation was higher than t-table (4.7824>2.0281). It means that the
hypothesis was accepted and it can be stated that flashcard is effective in teaching
English vocabulary at thefourth grade of SDN 1 Karangcegak, Kutasari,
Purbalingga in the academic year 2010/2011.
