Abstract
This study was aimed at investigating the vocabulary learning strategies used by
English Department students of Muhammadiyah University of Purwokerto. The
participants in this study were 54 students of the fourth semester. This study used
descriptive design of which data was collected using questionnaire. The results of
the data analysis was that the students used 69.48% of determination strategy,
54% of social strategy, 63.62% of memory strategy, 61.11% of cognitive strategy
and 64.14% of metacognitive strategy, with the most frequent used was
determination strategy while the least one was social strategy.
