The aim of this study was to know the students’
ability in comprehending the
authentic materials and to know the students problem in comprehending the authentic
materials at SMK Karya Mandiri Nusawungu in the Academic Year 2015/2016. It
wa
s a descriptive study. The subject of this research was thirty threestudents of
second grade students. The data was collected by multiple choice test. The result
showed that students’ reading comprehension was 72.75%. It can be concluded that
the ability in comprehending authentic materials at the eleventh grade students of
SMK Karya Mandiri Nusawungu in academic year 2015/2016 classified into good
categories. The analysis of student’s problem in comprehending the authentic
materials based on five reading comprehension aspects,they are: scanning, skimming,
using context for vocabulary, locating reference and reading for main idea.The result
of students problem showed that 29% and 18% of students had problem in supporting
Idea, 26% in using context of vocabulary, 29% in reading for main idea, and the most
problem that the students faced was in locating reference 32%.
