This study aimed to describe mathematical problem solving ability of students of
SMP Negeri 3 Pekuncen viewed from David Keirsey personality types. The
researcher used qualitative reseaech methods. The source of data was students of
class VIII B. Respondents were selected using purposive sampling. It look three
respondents for each personality type; namely students’ personality of artisan
type, idealist type, guardian type and rational type. Methods of data collection in
this study were questionnaire, test, interview, and documentation. Analysis of the
data was Miles and Huberman model including data reduction, presentation of
data (data display), and conclusion (verification/conclusion drawing). Test
validation of the data used was technique of triangulation test. The results showed
that: (1) students with artisan personality ignore phase of interpreting solution;
(2) students with rational personality rewrite answere in the phase of interpreting
solution; (3) students with idealist personality are lack in writing what they have
known; (4) students with guardian personality type neglect making settlement
plan stage.
