Abstract

This study examines the role of educational technology (EdTech) in developing English teaching skills for prospective teachers in Indonesia. Amidst the global learning revolution driven by EdTech, teacher education programs in Indonesia still face challenges in effectively integrating technology into the teaching curriculum. This study aims to analyze prospective English teachers' perceptions of the role of EdTech in improving teaching competencies and to identify the EdTech tools they use. Data were collected through Likert scale questionnaires and open-ended questions from 41 prospective teacher respondents. The findings show that prospective teachers have a very positive perception of EdTech, believing that digital tools help them understand and explain material more clearly, as well as improve vocabulary and sentence structure. The majority of respondents also see EdTech as an integral component of efficient future teaching. The most frequently used EdTech tools include Canva, YouTube, Duolingo, Grammarly, Blooket, and Kahoot! Respondents reported that EdTech increases student engagement, provides instant feedback, facilitates access to diverse materials, and helps in the development of both receptive and productive language skills. The effectiveness of EdTech is believed to stem from its interactive nature, ease of access, and ability to present authentic and contextual content. This study emphasizes the importance of EdTech in the development of prospective English teachers' competencies and recommends stronger integration into teacher education curricula to maximize pedagogical readiness.
