This research examines the meaning of love in Joji’s songs Like You Do and Glimpse of Us through Wellek and Warren’s (1977) structural analysis, emphasizing imagery, figurative language, tone, and characterization. The analysis of Like You Do reveals love as an irreplaceable and transformative force, illustrated through vivid imagery such as “Lost in the blue” and “bittersweet lullabies,” which evoke both comfort and melancholy. Figurative expressions and repetitive structures reinforce the sense of devotion and exclusivity toward the beloved. In Glimpse of Us, love emerges as a profound emotional attachment rooted in the past, depicted through contrasts between memories of intimacy and the emptiness of the present. The recurring metaphor of a fleeting “glimpse” captures the tension between lingering emotional connection and the impossibility of reclaiming it. Across both songs, the structural elements intertwine to portray love as simultaneously nurturing and fragile, offering emotional refuge while remaining vulnerable to time and change. This study contributes to the field of literary analysis by demonstrating how song lyrics, when examined through a structuralist lens, can reveal complex thematic representations and aesthetic depth.
