Mastering English has become essential for academic and professional success in today's globalized world. However, many students face challenges in acquiring English, especially in countries such as Indonesia and secondary schools such as SMP Negeri 1 Baturaden. This study explored the impact of picture-based instruction on students' motivation and awareness in learning English, focused on secondary school students in Indonesia. Used a quasi-experimental design, the research compares an experimental group that received picture-based instruction with a control group that followed non-picture-based instruction. The study assessed motivation and metacognitive awareness using pre-and post-test questionnaires alongside classroom observations. Findings indicated that picture-based instruction significantly increased students' motivation and awareness compared to non-picture-based instruction. The experimental group showed enhanced engagement and better metacognitive strategies, which contributed to improved language learning outcomes. These results underline the importance of integrating visual aids into English language teaching to boost student engagement, retention, and comprehension. The study provides practical recommendations for educators and policymakers, advocating for including picture-based instruction to create more dynamic and effective learning environments.
