Abstract

The main objective of the research was to improve students‟
pronunciation in English teaching learning process through reading aloud.
The research was carried out at SD N 1 Mersi in Academic Year
2013/2014. The research used Classroom Action Research. The researcher
took 5
th
grade as the subject of the research. This action research was
conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of planning, acting,
observing and reflecting. In collecting the data, the researcher used
observation, questionnaire, interview, field note and test. Based on the
result of collecting the data, there were some conclusions that can be
drawn. Reading aloud was ab
le to improve students‟ pronunciation in
English class. Students‟ pronunciation improved, the score improvement
in post-test 1 was 24% toward pre-test. The score improvement in post-test
2 was 29.1% toward post-test 1. The observation result showed the total
average of students‟ activities in Cycle 1 was
27.35
%, and the total
average of students‟ activities in Cycle 2 was
83.12
%. Thus, the
improvement of students‟ activities was
55.77%. The questionnaire result
showed 71.2% of the students answered “yes”. O
verall, the research
showed that the teaching pronunciation through reading aloud could
improve students‟ pronunciation in English teaching learning process
class.
