Abstract

Wound is a discontinuity in a tissue, some people prefer to heal the wound
traditionally using herbs. One of the herbs used for it is a leave of Leucaena
leucocephala (Lam) de Wit. Besides the empirical evidences for healing the
wound, the herbs still have other benefits for health. This research is to determine
the potency of the ethanol extract of the leave and to determine it’s most effective
concentration for healing the wound. This in an experimental research. It’s
ethanol extract of Leucaena leucocephala was obtained by maceration extract
using the 95% ethanol. The extract were then administrated topically in three
distinct consentration of 5%, 10%, and 20% in 2% Na CMC. Each extract was
than tested on the excision wound of 2,5 cm in diameter on rabbit’s back. Based
on the anova statistics, it indicates that the concentration of 20% shows a very
significant result compare to the negative control (p ≤ 0,01). Concentration of 5%
and 10% not show any significant result (p ≥ 0,05) and between the concentration
of 20% with a positive control is not significant differences. A histopatology test
proves that the 20% concentration of the extract has the best score of collagen and
of fibroblast quantity compared to other concentrations. It can be concluded that
the ethanol extract of the Leucaena leucocephala leaves can speed up the healing
of the wound and the most effective concentration is 20%.
