Abstract
Leucorrhoea is a vaginitis desease which mostly caused by Candida
albicans. The treatment to cure the infection of C. Albicans is generally could be
executed by using some azole type of drugs, yet recently it is reported that C.
Albicans has been resistant to that azole type of drugs. The treatment also can be
done by using traditional medicine made of plants which empirically are used as
an antifungal potion. It is known that the Cassia alata leaves has an antifungal
activity. The research purpose is to discover the antifungal activity of the liquid
soap which contains Cassia alata leaves ethanol extract and to find out the effect
of the extract concentration to the characteristic of the liquid soap. The extract is
gained through the process of maceration using ethanol 96%. The formula of
liquid soap is made with the concentration of condensed extract 1,25% as the
formula I, 2,5% as the formula II, 5% as the formula III. The evaluation of the
liquid soap characteristic is covering organoleptic, viscosity, power foam, and pH.
The antifungal activity test of liquid soap formula is done by applying diffusion
method using paper disc. The result of the liquid soap characteristic test shows
that the variation of extract concentration does not affect the stability of the power
foam and pH, however it does affect the formula’s colour and viscosity. The
storage process for 4 weeks shows that the formula’s organoleptic characteristic,
viscosity, and pH are stable. The antifungal activity test shows that the average
diameter of the liquid soap inhibition zones with extract concentration 1.25%,
2.5%, and 5% to C. Albicans in a row are 24.12445 mm, 24.4 mm, and 24.96667
mm, while the positive control is 10.38 mm and the negative control is 23.47778
mm each of them. The liquid soap which contains the extract of Cassia alata
leaves has the antifungal activity to the C. albicans. The variation of the extract
concentration affects the characteristic of the liquid soap, that is, it affects the
formula’s colour and viscosity.
