Abstract
The high incidence and death due to head and neck cancer worldwide
including Indonesia makes the assessment of health-related quality of life
(HRQOL) as outcome of therapy is considered important. Symptoms due to
cancer itself or side effect of therapy can affect patient’s quality of life. The aim
of this study are to describe and analize HRQOL head and neck cancer patients
who received single or combination therapy. Descriptive-analytic with cross
sectional study is used to assess HRQOL of 26 head neck cancer patients in
RSUD Prof. Dr. Margono Soekarjo Purwokerto using EQ-5D-5L Questionnaire.
Patients with the average age 49 years old (SD=13,8), received single therapy
surgery (50,0%), combination therapy surgery with chemotherapy (18,2%),
combination therapy surgery with chemoradiation (13,6%), combination therapy
chemoradiation (9,1%), and single therapy chemotherapy (9,1%). 84.6% of
respondents have completed the treatment while 15,4% of respondents are still in
active treatment. The highest precentage of problems by respondent who received
single and combination therapy are anxiety (53,8%) and pain (46,2%) followed by
activity (30,8%), mobility (15,4%) and self-care (7,7%). There is sigificant
difference between HRQOL on mobility dimension and type therapy with p value
0,01 (p<0,05) using Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann Whitney test shows there are
significant difference HRQOL on mobility dimension between chemoradiation
group with surgery (p<0,01), with combination surgery-chemoradiation (p<0,05),
and with combination surgery-chemotherapy (p<0,05). In conclusion patients who
received single or combination therapy have higher problems on anxiety (53,8%)
and pain (46,2%). There is significant difference HRQOL on patients who
received chemoradiation than the other type of therapy.
