Abstract

This study investigated the teachers' teaching strategies in reading class at the junior high school located in Karang Pucung. It employed descriptive qualitative as the research method. This study used observation and interview as the research instrument to explore the English teachers' strategies encountered in the reading class. The research result found that the two teachers used skimming and scanning–for instance guiding students to read quickly, the third strategies was SQ3R, and the last encountered strategies QARs. The study contributes to a better understanding of English language instruction in the Indonesian context. It offers valuable insight for English Language teachers and educators in compiling language teaching programs. It finally suggests that the teachers should consider to used various teaching strategies in reading class along with the development of a suitable learning environment that will keep students engaged in their learning-focused.
