This research focused on the spiritual issues mentioned in three of Purgatory’s song
lyrics. The descriptive qualitative method was used in this research. This research
used content analysist to examine the three songs lyrics by Purgatory that will serve
as the research data. The spirituality theory by David N. Elkins was used to seek the
spirituality aspect of the three songs lyrics. The primary data of this research were
“Obvious Insanity”, “Angerball”, and “Hypocrite” in the album Beauty Lies Beneath
by Purgatory. The results of this research revealed there were four aspects of
spirituality mentioned in the words, phrases, of the three songs lyrics, they are: the
transcendence dimension, the meaning and purpose of life, the mission of life, and
altruism. These aspects lead to the conclusion that the three songs lyrics from
Purgatory has a spiritual significance of individual spiritual journeys.
