Abstract
This study discusses implicature, which refers to intentions or alternative meanings
within an utterance. The study aimed to describe the types and functions of implicature
discovered in blood donation pamphlets on the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Instagram
from November 2022 to February 2023. Pamphlets were a medium used to promote
products or information to the public. The research data consisted of words or
sentences revealed in the blood donation pamphlets on the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI)
Instagram from November 2022 to February 2023. The data source for this study was
the pamphlets distributed through the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Instagram from
November 2022 to February 2023. The research method employed was a qualitative
description. The research process involved: (1) data collection through note-taking
methods, (2) data analysis using distributional methods, and (3) presentation of results
using informal methods. The research findings revealed two types of implicature:
conventional and conversational, with declarative and imperative functions.
Conventional implicature served a declarative function in 17 data, served an imperative
function in 31 data, while conversational implicature served a declarative function in
37 data and an imperative function in 15 data. Cooperative principles covered: (1) the
maxim of quantity, (2) the maxim of quality, and (3) the maxim of relevance.
