The research was conducted in the Ngudi Rahayu Farmer Group in Batumirah
Village, Bumijawa District, Tegal Regency, from September 2022 to August 2023.
The objectives of this study were: 1) To identify the profile of chili farmers in the
Ngudi Rahayu Farmer Group in Batumirah Village. 2) to find out the working
pattern of chili farmers in the Ngudi Rahayu Farmer Group. 3) To determine
challenges and solutions faced in the work pattern of chili farmers in the Ngudi
Rahayu Farmer Group.
The research employed a descriptive qualitative and quantitative case study
approach, utilizing primary and secondary data. Sampling was done using a
purposive sampling technique, selecting 32 chili farmers from the Ngudi Rahayu
Farmer Group per the set criteria.
The research findings illustrated the work pattern of chili farmers in the Ngudi
Rahayu Group. The nature of their work was categorized into a) Landowner farmers
have proprietary rights over their land and have the freedom to decide which
commodities to cultivate. b) Tenant farmers who directly work under the command
of landowner farmers. In this relationship, money and wages are the primary
objectives in the collaborative process. c) Agricultural laborers work as per
landowner farmers' directives and earn wages daily or weekly based on agreements
made.
Recommendations from the study are:1.Farmers facing financial constraints
should participate in partnership programs to reap multiple benefits. 2. The village
authorities need to create awareness among farmers about farmer groups in
Batumirah Village, as many farmers are either unaware or not part of any group. 3.
Farmers should learn about agricultural product marketing to maximize sales
outcomes.
