Abstract
Sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata L.) is a horticultural crop with a higher
sugar content than other corn types. It is known for its sweeter taste and high
carbohydrate, protein, vitamin, and low-fat content. Farmers can enhance sweet
corn yields by improving soil fertility by applying balanced fertilizers. This study
aims to investigate the effect of vermicompost and KNO3 fertilizers on the growth
and yield of sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata L.). The study was conducted from
October 2023 to December 2023 at the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of
Agriculture and Fisheries, Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. The research
method used was a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two factors. The first
factor was vermicompost fertilizer (V), which consists of four levels; the second was
KNO3 fertilizer (K), which also consists of four levels. Each treatment was repeated
three times, with five samples per treatment. The vermicompost treatments were V0
= 0 tons/ha, V1 = 1.5 tons/ha, V2 = 3 tons/ha, V3 = 4.5 tons/ha, and the KNO3
treatments were K0 = 0 kg/ha, K1 = 50 kg/ha, K2 = 100 kg/ha, K3 = 150 kg/ha.
Data analysis was performed using ANOVA, followed by a DMRT test at a 5%
significance level. The results showed that the combination of vermicompost and
KNO3 fertilizers had a significant effect on all variables except for stem diameter
at 14 days after planting (DAP), fresh biomass weight at 14 and 28 DAP, dry
biomass weight at 14 and 28 DAP, root dry weight at 14 and 42 DAP, the number
of cobs, and cob length with husks.
