Abstract
This thesis is the result of historical research titled " Muhammadiyah
Organization in Tegal Regency from 2000 to 2022," using historical research
methods. This method comprised four steps: (1) Heuristics, collecting sources
through interview techniques; (2) Criticism, a step to test the authenticity of
historical data sources; (3) Interpretation, arranging historical facts according to
their authenticity to form an original narrative; and (4) Historiography, recording
the results of the entire research. The aims of the study were (1) to explain the
process of the emergence of Muhammadiyah in Tegal Regency, (2) to describe the
leadership periods of Muhammadiyah in Tegal Regency from 2000 to 2022, and (3)
to describe the development of Muhammadiyah's social enterprises in Tegal
Regency from 2000 to 2022.
The results indicated that Muhammadiyah entered Tegal in 1925 when Tegal
Regency was still part of Tegal City. Muhammadiyah in Tegal Regency was
officially established in 1956, pioneered by K.H. Ahmad Suyuti. The
Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership (PDM) in Tegal Regency was formally
formed in 1986. Regarding leadership periods, K.H. Fathi Rozak, K.H. Mudzakir
Fauzi, Agus Tri Jazuli, and K.H. Arief Azman all shared a pattern of collective
collegial leadership. During K.H. Fathi Rozak's period, the challenges faced
included not adhering to organizational guidelines and each branch operating
independently, addressed by efforts to increase the organization's work
effectiveness and efficiency. During K.H. Mudzakir Fauzi's period, members'
mindset differences became the main challenge addressed by regular deliberations.
During Agus Tri Jazuli's period, challenges included a poorly functioning hospital,
while innovations made during this period included realizing the construction of
the Zam-Zam Building. Finally, during K.H. Arief Azman's period, the major
challenge was the COVID-19 pandemic, and innovations included establishing the
Muhammadiyah College of Health Sciences in Tegal to produce competent
healthcare professionals. Muhammadiyah in Tegal Regency offered social
enterprises that covered education, health, economy, and social services.
