Abstract

Deadpool is an American movie directed by Tim Miller. The screenplay of Movie Deadpool contains various actions that embody elements of resistance. This study aims to describe the forms of resistance performed by the characters in the Movie Deadpool using James C. Scott's theory of resistance. Data collection in this research employs purposive sampling techniques, while data analysis uses textual analysis techniques. The data sources for this research are the Movie Deadpool which has a duration of 108 minutes, scene screenshots and dialogues related to the research problems. The results of this study indicate that the Movie Deadpool portrays hegemony exerted by the antagonist character over the main character. The movie features two forms of resistance: closed resistance and open resistance. Closed resistance is exhibited by two characters in the screenplay. This form of resistance is ideological, involving the withdrawal of respect for the antagonist characters and refusing to submit to any form of intimidation. The closed resistance is unstructured, unplanned, and individualistic, and it does not result in any significant change. Open resistance in the screenplay involves physical confrontations. This form of resistance is structured, well-planned, and involves cooperation among members for revolutionary purposes. Additionally, the Movie Deadpool screenplay illustrates the contributes of resistance in promoting freedom among ruled individuals or groups.
