Abstract

This study was conducted in Karanggintung Village, Sumbang District, Banyumas Regency. The objectives of this research are to (1) determine the profile of corn farmers in Karanggintung Village, (2) identify the constraints and solutions faced by farmer groups in improving corn production in Karanggintung Village, and (3) assess the role of farmer groups in enhancing corn production in Karanggintung Village, Sumbang District, Banyumas Regency. The study employs a case study method with purposive sampling, involving 27 respondents.
The findings of the research are as follows: (1) The majority of corn farmers are between 56-75 years old, predominantly male, and have completed primary education. Most farmers have 5-20 years of farming experience, have 1-3 dependents, cultivate land sizes ranging from 0.2-0.7 hectares, and have been members of farmer groups for 3-15 years. (2) The constraints affecting corn production include issues related to fertilizer, seeds, pests, climate, labor, and agricultural land. Proposed solutions include purchasing non-subsidized fertilizers at regular prices, using compost, employing local corn seeds, applying anti-blight pesticides, utilizing well water, employing spraying equipment for field maintenance, recruiting labor from outside the village, and recycling nutrients from plant and animal waste to enhance soil fertility. (3) The role of farmer groups in learning classes received a total score of 995, with a percentage of 92.12%, categorized as highly influential. The role of farmer groups in cooperation received a score of 941, with a percentage of 87.12%, also categorized as highly influential. The role of farmer groups in production units received a total score of 989, with a percentage of 91.57%, categorized as highly influential. Overall, the combined roles resulted in a total score of 2,925, with a percentage of 90.27%, categorized as highly influential.
