Abstract

The most common problems EFL teachers face in teaching writing are students' inadequate vocabulary and lack of resources. The research and development study aims to create instructional materials on writing descriptive texts that support teachers in offering suitable strategies and give students vocabulary to aid in the composition of descriptive texts. Questionnaires, interviews, and tests were applied to collect data. Data analysis was analyzed using descriptive analysis, thematic analysis, and inferential test. The development of text materials followed the ADDIE model. The teaching materials blended discovery learning with the "Cerpen-gram" approach. Two expert validators validated the teaching material before the EFL teacher applied it. The content was deemed very legitimate by the validator for application in the writing descriptive course. The research subject was the seventh-grade students in SMP N 2 Padamara. The results showed that descriptive writing abilities had improved statistically significantly (t-value of 14.4097 at 95% confidence level, α = 0.05). The study opens the door for more research and use in educational settings by highlighting the benefits of incorporating the "Cerpen-gram" into students' descriptive writing skills.
