Abstract

As generations grow more accustomed to using technology, the paradigm
centered on traditional means of conveying culture tends to lose appeal. Through
the use of captivating virtual, augmented reality (AR) technology creates new
avenues for introducing and protecting Indonesia’s cultural legacy. The rich
cultural richness and legacy of Indonesia includes batik, which has been recognized
globally by UNESCO since 2009. But in Banyumas, the locals still do not fully
comprehend the unique batik patterns of their area. Wearing batik frequently result
in a lack of awareness for the hidden meanings that are there in each pattern due
to the visual beauty of the material. Thus, the goal of the research is to create and
Android-based augmented reality application for the introduction of Banyumas
Batik Motifs. It is intended that the community will learn more about and appreciate
their culture especially Banyumas Batik through this application. The program
presents twelve instances of Banyumas Batik motifs, along by the philosophical
implications inherent in each pattern. The Multimedia Development Life Cycle
(MDLC), comprising six stages concept, design, material collection, assembly,
testing, and distribution is the study approach used. Black box testing was used in
the alpha testing phase, and a likert scale was used for User Acceptance Testing
(UAT) in the beta testing phase. With a user acceptance percentage of 95% for the
Banyumas Batik Motifs Augmented Reality Application falling into the “strongly
agree” category, the research findings demonstrate the application’s effective
development.
