Abstract

This study aims to address the issue of mosque charity box theft by
designing and implementing an Internet of Things (IoT) based security system.
Charity box theft occurs due to inadequate supervision within mosques, providing
opportunities for certain individuals to commit such criminal acts. Based on
background analysis, it is evident that the adoption of modern technology is
necessary to enhance the security of charity boxes. The designed mosque charity
box security system utilizes the ESP32 microcontroller as its core, with ultrasonic
sensors to detect intrusion attempts, a keypad for password entry, and a GPS
module to track the location of the charity box. When the charity box is tampered
with, the ultrasonic sensor detects changes in door distance and activates the
buzzer, while notifications are sent via the Telegram application. The system also
features automatic door opening via the keypad with the correct password.
Research findings indicate that the system successfully locks automatically when
the correct password is entered, the solenoid opens for 5 seconds, the ultrasonic
sensor accurately reads the door distance when forcibly opened more than 25 cm,
the buzzer functions as an alarm when the charity box is forcibly opened, and
warning messages are sent via a Telegram bot. The difference in distance between
the smartphone and the internet ranges from 1 meter to 20 meters, with an
average message delivery time of 1 second, an 86% system success rate, and a
battery life of 60 hours or 2 days and 12 hours, effectively fulfilling its objectives.
Thus, the implementation of this security system is expected to help reduce the
increasing incidents of mosque charity box theft.
