Abstract
Background: Allergic Rhinitis (AR) is an induced nasal mucosa inflammatory disorder after allergen exposure through an IgE-mediated hypersensitivity reaction. Supportive therapy often administered to reduce the symptoms of RA is nasal irrigation through intranasal saline. Besides, Indonesia is also known for topical nasal therapy through Clerodendron serratum (L.) Spr. root extract, which contains flavonoids and saponins. Objective: To observe the effect of Clerodendron serratum (L.) Spr. root extract as a topical therapy on the levels of IgE nasal secretions in balb/c mice model AR. Method: The research type was a quasi-experimental in vivo with a posttest-only control group design approach. 20 balb/c mice were utilized and divided into four groups. Samples of nasal secretions were obtained after the treatment and IgE levels were measured. The statistical test used was One Way ANOVA and post hoc for the further study. Result: One Way ANOVA showed a significant difference (p0.01) in IgE levels. Furthermore, in the post hoc test, there were significant differences between groups (p.001) except for the comparison between the healthy control group and treatment group 1, which was insignificant (0.795).
